Apple has released the new iPhone 3.0 firmware today. It is FREE for iPhone customers, but for the iPod Touch users they are charging $9.95.

There is, however, a way to update the ipod touch firmware to the new 3.0 version for both the 1G and 2G ipod touch users, straight from the Apple servers. Follow these steps:

1. Download the firmware for your ipod generation:

iPod Touch 1G Firmware or iPod Touch 2G Firmware

2. Open iTunes.
3. Plug in your ipod touch.
4. Select your ipod touch.
5. Hold down the SHIFT key when clicking the RESTORE button.
6. Select the firmware file you downloaded.
7. Continue with the installation.
